Press feature: Zhang Hua Dong Walnut Care Hair Dye Cream — technology-empowered botanical color
China.com Life covers our Walnut Care Hair Dye Cream (Natural Black) — a two-part, fully botanical formula developed with the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Free of chemical dyes, PPD and hydrogen peroxide.

Traditional chemical hair color raises well-known safety concerns, while ordinary plant-based dyes have historically struggled with performance. Backed by 49 years of formulation heritage, the Zhang Hua Dong Walnut Care Hair Dye Cream (Natural Black) was created to close that gap — a high-technology, fully botanical color system where safety and results are no longer a trade-off.
Launched with technical support from the Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and developed by the Beijing Zhanghuadong Natural Cosmetics Research Center, the product is a two-part, all-plant dye system. It holds Chinese national patent ZL202111206530.X and Special Cosmetics registration 202414088, and is currently the only two-part hair-color product in this series with true national approval as a fully botanical dye formulation.
The formula replaces chemical colorants, hydrogen peroxide and PPD with an active-botanical color system built around walnut and gallnut extracts. Part 1 combines conditioning botanicals — ginkgo, motherwort and ginger root — with the color base; Part 2 relies on ferrous sulfate to develop and lock the shade, removing the need for a conventional oxidizer while staying gentle on the scalp.
A standardized two-step application makes the botanical result reproducible: apply Part 1 with a dye comb (20+ strokes, focusing on greys), rest ~30 minutes at room temperature, then apply Part 2 for another ~25 minutes before rinsing. Cooler conditions or resistant hair simply extend the rest time — the color develops deep black, bright and fade-resistant, without yellowing.
Quality is backed end-to-end: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 22716 (EU), US GMPC, ISO 45001, GB/T 29490 (IP) and GB/T 23001. A companion system — barrier cream, color-lock essence and dedicated shampoo — protects the skin during application and extends color retention afterwards.
